Borderline personality traits - BPD

A type of mental disorder characterized by alterations in mood, behavior and interpersonal relationships.

The origin of this disease is multifactorial, with biological and psychosocial factors.

It is characterized by problems in regulating emotions and thoughts, impulsive and reckless behavior and unstable relationships with other people, anxiety, feelings of emptiness, depression, emotional lability, eating disorders, substance abuse and episodes of uncontrollable anger. There are cases that present self-injurious and suicidal behaviors. 

It is usually diagnosed during adolescence and early adulthood, by means of a structured clinical interview.

The main treatment is psychotherapy although some symptoms may require psychotropic drugs.

Self-care

Learn to identify what triggers the outbursts of rage and impulsive behavior.
Learn breathing and meditation techniques.
Do not make assumptions about what others feel or think.
Talk to your doctor about psychotherapy and other treatments.
