Central retinal artery occlusion

High urgency
-Moderately severe

The blockage of the central retinal artery is characterized by the absence of blood flow in the artery, which severely affects the function of the retina.

The causes can be many, but it often appears in people who have personal history of atherosclerosis, diabetes, high blood pressure, vascular and cardiac disease or immune and blood diseases.

Diagnosis is achieved through a detailed medical history, as well as physical examination with complete ophthalmological examination and additional tests like lab tests, imaging study of the carotid, electrocardiogram and cardiac ultrasound.

There are no treatments currently available that have demonstrated improved visual outcomes.Usually, some measures can be performed immediately, such as ocular massage, extracting liquid from the eye chambers, use of certain diuretics, antihypertensives, and hyperbaric oxygen.
