Congenital luxation or dysplasia of the hips (Pediatrics - PEDS)

Low urgency
--

It is a dislocation of the hip joint found in newborns, babies and young children.

The cause is unknown, although there are promoting factors such as: pelvic position of the fetus during delivery, excessive ligament flexibility, abrupt extension of the hip, some ways of holding the child, etc.

The diagnosis is reached through clinical questioning, physical examination, ultrasound scan and/or complete radiological exam (from the age of 4-6 months).

The most common treatment is the use of the Pavlik harness, but it may also be corrected through surgery.
