Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever

Medium urgency
-Moderately severe

Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is an acute, febrile viral disease of the Bunyaviridae family. The CCHF virus is found primarily in areas of Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia.

It is transmitted primarily by the bite of infected ticks or by direct contact with blood or other body fluids of infected animals. Some cases of human-to-human transmission by contact with blood or secretions of infected patients have been reported.

Symptoms include sudden onset of fever, severe headache, muscle aches, generalized weakness, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, bleeding from the skin and mucous membranes, and damage to organs such as the lungs, brain, and kidneys.

Diagnosis is based on the patient's medical history, assessment of symptoms, and laboratory test results.

Treatment is supportive and consists of relieving the patient's symptoms.
