Ear trauma - Otic contusion

Very low urgency
--

Injury that occurs in the external ear (skin, soft parts, cartilage) as a result of the action of an external force or energy.

It is generally due to a blow caused by a fall, shock, when practicing a sport, playing, etc...

The symptoms are: pain, swelling, bruising and redness. In order to rule out complications, the specialist will do a physical examination and ask about how did the trauma happen.

Treatment is based on pain control and reduction of inflammation with anti-inflammatories and painkillers. If there is an open wound, it shall be cleaned, and sutures shall be given if necessary. If the bruise is significant and it deforms the ear, surgical drainage may be necessary.
