Epilepsy - Generalized tonic-clonic seizures

Medium urgency
Very common-
This is a type of seizure caused by irritation of the brain. which affects the whole body and is accompanied by loss of consciousness. These seizures are triggered by various factors that cause irritation of the brain tissue (trauma, infections, malignancies, genetic and toxic substances). Tonic-clonic seizures pass through three phases. In the first one, the patient's muscles stiffen, in the second they lose consciousness and start to make generalized and repetitive movements, and in the third phase when the patient wakes up, they become exhausted, think slowly and cannot remember what happened. Diagnosis is made by taking the medical history, performing a full physical examination, an electroencephalogram, and complementary imaging tests may be performed. The treatment is based on the treatment of the precipitating cause, benzodiazepines and antiepileptics.
