Inflammatory lower back pain is the inflammatory response in the lower back region that the body produces as a response to autoimmune diseases.
There is a genetic propensity. Within the autoimmune diseases are ankylosing spondylitis, reactive arthritis, psoriatic arthropathy, enteropathic arthropathy (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), Reiter's syndrome, etc.
Pain is presented in a diffuse, gradual and progressive manner along the entire length of the spine, and may be accompanied by stiffness, loss of mobility, low-grade or mild fever and continuous feeling of tiredness.
Diagnosis is based on taking a detailed medical history, performing a full physical examination, imaging tests and different types of laboratory tests to complete the study of autoimmune diseases. The major criteria (mandatory) are chronic lower back pain and aged below 45 years, and the minor criteria (fulfill at least 2 of 4) are morning stiffness lasting longer than 30 minutes, improving with exercise but not with rest, waking up in the second half of the night because of pain and pain in alternating buttocks.
