A personality type that manifests itself in people who may appear eccentric and usually have few close relationships.
It occurs because they do not understand how relationships are formed, may misinterpret the behaviors of others and develop a distrust of other people.
The risk of schizotypal personality disorder is increased by having a relative with schizophrenia or another type of psychotic disorder.
It is characterized by being a lonely person with a lack of remorse, empathy, superficiality in relationships and intense fear of being observed and judged by others. They believe in mental telepathy or superstitions, and use extravagant and disheveled clothing.
Diagnosis is based on the finding of these symptoms in the medical interview and medical history.
Treatment includes a combination of psychotherapy and medication for anxiety or depression.
