Dislocation of the hip joint found in newborns, babies and young children.
The cause is unknown, although there are prone factors such as: foetal pelvic position during labour, excessive ligament flexibility, abrupt extension of the hip, some ways of holding the baby, etc.
The diagnosis is reached through clinical questioning, a physical examination, ultrasound scan and/or complete radiological exam (from the age of 4-6 months).
The most common treatment is the use of the Pavlik harness, but it may also be corrected through surgery.
