Hand trauma - Hand contusion

Very low urgency
--

Non-penetrating injury caused by a blow of mild to medium intensity to the hand.

The blow is caused generally by a hard, blunt object. Most common causes of it are contact sports traumatisms, car accidents, and labour and domestic accidents.

It manifests with an intense pain in the hand, bruising and swelling that may hinder movement.

The diagnosis is clinical through a questioning of the episode and a hand examination.

The treatment is symptomatic, with local cold therapy and anti-inflammatory drugs.
