膝の動きや機能が制限されることを特徴とする膝関節の病気です。
膝の外傷や膝関節の手術に伴って発生します。手術の遅れ、リハビリの開始の遅れ、長期臥床などの要因で出現することがあります。
膝関節の動きが制限されるのが特徴です。大腿四頭筋の萎縮、関節の痛みや腫れを伴うこともあります。
診断は、外傷や手術歴などの病歴の聴取、関節の動く角度の測定、画像検査によって行われます。最も一般的なものは、関節のX線検査とMRI検査です。
予防が治療の大きな柱ですので、徴候があれば早期に介入し、強直を避けるためにできるだけ早くリハビリをすることをお勧めします。痛みに対しては、鎮痛剤、抗炎症剤を定期的に服用し、安静を保つようにします。屈曲を改善するための矯正は麻酔を使用して行うことができ、関節鏡と組み合わせることでより大きな関節開放を得ることができます。手技による整復に反応しない重症例や、関節に石灰化が見られる場合は、外科的手術が必要になることもあります。
