Poliepen en larynxknobbels zijn laesies van de stembanden veroorzaakt door stemmisbruik en irriterende stoffen zoals tabak, alcohol of maagreflux.
Ze presenteren zich met een verandering in de toon van de stem, wat kan leiden tot afonie.
De diagnose wordt klinisch gesteld en door directe laryngoscopie door een specialist.
De behandeling bestaat uit het verwijderen van irriterende stoffen en stemtherapie. Poliepen moeten meestal operatief verwijderd worden om de stem te normaliseren.
