Opiat türevleri (morfin, oksikodon ve sentetik opioid narkotikler) veya eroin kullanımı nedeniyle oluşan bir durumdur.
Aşırı doz, kazara ya da kasıtlı olabilir.
Belirtiler arasında bilinç değişikliği, solunum depresyonu, düşük tansiyon ve zayıf nabız bulunur.
Tanı, hastanın tıbbi geçmişi, fizik muayene ve CBC, toksikoloji testi, göğüs röntgeni, elektrokardiyogram ve nöbet varsa beyin BT taraması gibi ek tetkiklerle konur.
Destekleyici ve semptomatik tedavi uygulanır; nalokson adlı antidot mümkün olan en kısa sürede, hatta ayaktan tedavi sırasında bile verilir.
